I wrote on my placard, "redeem the beauty of our nature," a wonderful adage I instilled with the tree I have planted. Today, I truly appreciate the true meaning of tree planting because it contributes to global reforestation efforts, mitigating climate change, and repairing damaged ecosystems. As I keep on planting the tree that was destined for me, it inspires me to continue giving significance to trees because it is part of environmental conservation. Trees give us oxygen, help in cooling the air, providing food and shelter for wildlife.
On the other hand, the first activity we had was hiking. There are so many realizations during the hiking, first is, "in the cookies of life, friends are the chocolate chips." I won't be able to reach the 1,082nd step without the help of my Mutya sisters. One of the candidates let me borrow her stick in order for me not to stumble on the rocks. The Second is "one step at a time," which is a thought that always reminds me not to give up and keep moving forward to the staircase. Third, I was able to overcome my fear of heights. I became a brave woman who also motivates other girls to face their fears, and I make sure that no one will be left behind. In our first batch, one of my groupmates is having a hard time climbing up the stairs, and she is breathing hard. I walked with her and helped her to be optimistic, I am glad I did that because, together we were able to reach the finish line. This journey was not easy from the start, but seeing the beauty of nature and the beautiful culture of Obu Manuvu was all worth it.
Witnessing the established cultural legacy of Obu Manuvu is the most wonderful experience. It touched my heart to see their exquisite cultural dances, being able to receive necklaces they made for us, and being able to taste their different recipes like chicken, frog, and eggplant cooked using bamboo. It also gave me more ideas for implementing advocacy for my literacy program for their tribe. All in all, it was such unforgettable moments that I will forever cherish, not just as a beauty queen, but also as a lucky individual who has a purpose and live the life I desire.
